I had a hip replacement at LCMH. Each step along the way, I was impressed with each employee I encountered. However, when I think about my experience, what I remember most was the smiling face of my nurse Mary. She was so encouraging and positive. As a nurse myself, it is very hard for me to ask for help. Mary took the time to just talk with me and never rushed while making sure I had everything I needed. Most of all she smiled, all the time, and brought positive energy into the room. I was not a difficult patient but what was most needed was that my family was reassured that I was doing well. Mary provided that and more. I would like to nominate Mary as an "unsung hero". She is the epitome of what a patient needs from a nurse. Someone who comes to work, recognizing that her job is about more than passing meds. Mary meets her patient's needs by giving of herself to make the patient feel safe and secure. Mary embodies Little Company of Mary's mission by being a healing presence for patients.
