On the most terrible day of our lives, I remember the staff allowing us time to sit and hold our baby and try to begin to say goodbye.
I wanted to send a note of appreciation to your ER staff as well as let you know about my experience while in your ER. I received a phone call that no parent ever wants to receive. My daughter was out of town with my mother in Eufaula and had drowned. There was talk of flying her to SFH but ultimately we were told she was being brought to your facility by ambulance instead. While I continued to pray for a miracle, I knew the change in care meant she was not going to make it.
A friend drove my husband and me to Henryetta while my family kept us updated until there were no more updates to give. I don't remember names because that day is mostly a blur, but I do remember how we were given privacy, respect and our entire family was able to be there despite the new restrictions in place related to COVID-19.
The head nurse, Mary Fisher, allowed me to step into her office to make a couple of phone calls while I said, for the first time out loud, that my daughter was gone. The physician on staff that day spoke to us with empathy and sincerity. On the most terrible day of our lives, I remember the staff allowing us time to sit and hold our baby and try to begin to say goodbye. While nothing about this has been or will ever be easy, the peace provided by the ER surrounding our tragedy was greatly appreciated.
Mary received two other nominations as well:
Mary took excellent care of getting what I needed to be done. Mary was outstanding!
Mary was one of the best nurses I have ever had in my life. Personable, efficient, friendly, knowledgeable. She made me feel very comfortable despite being in pain.
