May 2015 Honoree
mary gardner, RN
A patient was flown to our ED from a rural area with chest pain. The staff began work on her immediately but unfortunately she had an aortic dissection and would not survive the event. When Mary had to break this news to her daughter and family she became the most caring and compassionate nurse I have ever seen. Mary hugged the daughter like she was her very own and did not leave her side. She remained with her through the phone calls to her father in Texas and other family members. Mary became the surrogate mother to the daughter who had just lost her own mother. She is truly everything the DAISY Award stands for.
Thank you, Mary, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
