Mary is an exemplary nurse. She is always upbeat and optimistic. I have seen her on more than one occasion not only providing excellent care for her patients but truly engaging them. She is able to calm and reassure the patients and families and keep a smile on her face. She does not shy away from new concepts and experiences. She is able to assist and guide other nurses during patient care that is unfamiliar to them. Her skill and composure allow her to make things look effortless when you know she is really working hard.

I had the privilege of working with Mary for a challenging patient who was not happy with her discharge plan. Mary was curious about the discharge plan and the barriers. She asked intelligent questions in order to ensure her understanding and the role she played in the discharge planning. She then went above and beyond in order to work with the physicians and the patient to overcome the identified barriers. I also had the opportunity to participate in a family meeting with Mary. She was clear, concise, and compassionate while explaining treatment options to the patient and their family. Mary is always willing to go above and beyond and shows true compassion for her patients.

She makes everyone's day a little brighter. Her knowledge and cheerful demeanor have a positive impact on her patients, colleagues and all the people she comes in contact with. She has the courage to meet the demands of the profession and the integrity and character to embrace all situations as a positive experience. Mary volunteered to take a high acuity patient with invasive hemodynamic monitoring to learn and provide intense care. Her critical thinking skills are exceptional and she handles situations in a calm and controlled manner. She teaches and encourages others to meet challenges that they never thought possible.
