Mary Grace is a lead nurse in the ASC and operating suites at Tyson's Corner. She has several years of clinical nursing experience and brings that wisdom and skill with her every day.
She consistently applies standards and policies to keep members and staff safe, and to achieve the best possible outcomes. Under her leadership, the team that performs cataract surgeries has been recognized for best evidence-based practice and having the most efficient work processes. Mary Grace always seeks opportunities to improve patient care, identify missed opportunities to provide excellent service and she is often the first to take action when something is amiss. She demonstrates strong accountability and professionalism—both of which shine through daily.
Mary Grace pays close attention to how she and her team can be responsive to a patient or a family member's preferences, values, and priorities. She works to provide culturally competent care for every member while ensuring safety and effectiveness in a fast-paced environment. She is so attentive to the needs of her patients they frequently ask for her when they return for additional care. She steps into the shoes of her patients and anticipates what will help them feel at ease. This was the inspiration behind the workflow she created to allow a patient's family member to stay with the patient in the peri-op area until the patient is ready for surgery. And her care and concern do not stop there. Mary Grace supports her team members and encourages a culture of compassion around her.
Mary Grace leads and directs the team's tasks in both the peri-operative and Operating Room areas seamlessly, speaking clearly so staff understand what needs to be done but, allowing room for questions and clarification, to ensure everyone's safety. She competently and professionally provides care to every patient. She's passionate about the work she does and through her positive, professional example she elevates clinical practice.
