December 2023 Honoree
Mary Kubacki, RN
In the time that I have worked at RMR, I have seen several patients that have needed a sitter. Oftentimes, the sitter is in the room with the patient, and they hardly interact with them. That was not the case when Mary Kubacki sat for one patient. Mary volunteered to take the patient to Sunday Mass in the morning. Throughout the day when I would walk by I would see Mary engaging with the patient. A few hours before the shift change, I walked by the room and found the patient and Mary listening to music that the patient likes. Both the patient and Mary sang along to the songs and danced in their chairs. The patient had the biggest smile I had seen on their face in a long time. As an RMR employee, seeing how she interacted with the patient was amazing. Mary went to the lengths to ensure that the patient received the care they deserved and went above and beyond what I saw as a nurse's duty. I believe she is an example of what ICARE stands for today and many others.
Thank you, Mary, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
