I first met Mary the day I came out of my operation. The next day I had her all day. I was in a lot of pain. She kept encouraging me to hang in there because each day gets better. I stayed in the SIUC for 5 days. I was on the floor for 1 day and had complications and sent back to SICU; that's when Mary played a big part in my turn around recovery.
Mary kept asking about my oxygen being lowered. I went from 50 to 1 in 2 days. She walked me very often. She said I would recover much quicker the more I walked. One day she walked me 7 times. Everyone in SICU helped with my recovery, but Mary helped me the most. I was in SICU another 11 days, but I made a quick recovery thanks to Mary and the confidence and reassurance she had in me.
