Mary Lou and Beth Sponzo were nominated by a physician who spoke to their exemplary care of a patient who was suffering from a severe reaction to chemotherapy. Mary Lou and Beth exhibited the highest level of clinical judgment and skill during this episode. Despite the initial response from the physician that nothing serious was wrong they pursued a different diagnosis and ordered the appropriate testing that uncovered a very rare and unexpected complication. This could have been fatal if not treated immediately. Mary Lou and Beth instituted immediate and appropriate therapy.
