Mary McInville is the definition of a great, caring, over-achieving nurse. Mary always has gone above and beyond her call of duty for her patients and co-workers. She has put in long hours to help the unit in time of need. She handles some of the most stressful situations like a pro and helps keep the patient calm at the same time. Mary is just amazing."

I have seen her be a patient advocate time and time again when it comes to breastfeeding. Not only does she use current information pertaining to healthcare, but she finds easy ways to explain procedures to patients. Mary definitely deserves this!"

"Mary McInville is a very deserving nurse for the DAISY Award for many reasons. As a peer to Mary on the Family Birthing Center, I have see the outstanding example that Mary gives every day of what it means to not only be a compassionate and hardworking nurse but also a caring and understanding mentor.

Mary is always going above and beyond when it comes to caring for her patients. She is an advocate when the patient needs help getting their needs and desires across to the physician. She is an amazing coach to each and every laboring mom. Mary has an excellent knowledge base of OB and knows how to approach any situation that comes her way. She will stand by the patient's bedside and talk them through every procedure, listen when that is what the patient needs or just be a support person standing silently in the patient's room when that is what they are needing. She approaches every situation effortlessly. It all seems so second nature to Mary. Even when it seems things are getting stressful with a delivery, Mary never shows that to the patient; and she willingly helps with any delivery situation. It doesn't end with the labor and delivery, though; Mary is also a breastfeeding educator on the unit and will go the extra mile to ensure that each and every patient who desire to breastfeed is given the greatest opportunity to make that happen. She will stay, even after her shift, to help a new mom get her baby to latch on for the first time. She always gives selflessly.

As a nurse who works on Family birthing Center alongside Mary, I am always in awe of how she does it all. She is an outstanding nurse in so many aspects and I can't even fully describe how thankful I am to be able to know her as a person, peer and mentor; but I have also had the privilege of having Mary care for me as a nurse during my own labor. Everything just seemed so easy with Mary. Never once did I feel like she was rushed to get in and out of my room just so she could finish her next task or catch up on charting. Even my husband and sister felt comfortable with her. I think when Mary is in the room, you just get the feeling that everything will be just fine. All questions will be answered. Her confidence is evident but not over the top; she is so humble.

I could go on and on about why I feel that Mary McInville is the most deserving nurse for the DAISY Award, but these are some of the most significant and important reasons to me of why and how she exemplifies what it means to be an extraordinary and compassionate nurse as well as a professional, caring and expert mentor. Mary fulfills every aspect of what this award is designed for and I hope that if Mary is elected as the next DAIS award winner she could see even just a little bit of how truly amazing and inspiring she is to me and many of the other nurses here in the Broadlawns Family Birthing Center."

Mary says she loves her job and her co-workers. They all work together to provided the best patient care they can. She enjoys work because she gets to take care of families celebrating a joyous time in their life the birth of a baby. She cares for patients from many different cultures and learns about them and their family. She helps them and teaches them and they teach her how to care for their baby.
