Mary strives to connect with her patients. I was having a rough day with my chronic illness and Mary took extra time with me. She sat next to me and shared her personal experience with the same illness. To know you are not alone helped my nerves to relax as I received Mary's excellent compassion and care.
Mary understood what I was going through and fought to be a true patient advocate. She made sure my pain was controlled and the doctors communicated with when I was unable to do so myself. She assisted me to practice alternative and holistic ways to decrease my pain.
I had never received blood products before and Mary stayed with me longer than the typical 15 minutes at the start of each bag, she stayed at least 45 minutes for emotional support which was above and beyond. Task-oriented nursing was never evident in the nursing she provided. Mary was meant to be my nurse that day. She made me laugh, relax, and had a sense of peace around her that helped me recover. I was truly blessed to have her as my nurse.
