She not only exhibited excellent teamwork but was also very compassionate and encouraging to our mothers who were having their babies.
Mary Parker was on labor and delivery for her clinical OB rotation. We were extremely busy this day, and Mary Parker hit the ground running, helping in many ways.  She was helpful to everyone, from patients to visitors to nurses and doctors.  She not only exhibited excellent teamwork but was also very compassionate and encouraging to our mothers who were having their babies.  As busy as our day was, I could tell within the first couple of hours that Mary Parker has all of the qualities that is takes to be a great nurse!!

On day 1 of clinical for N426, Mary Parker arrived on 2Wiser full of excitement. After receiving report and meeting the nurse she would be with that day, Mary Parker began to leave a lasting impression on every 2Wiser staff member she encountered. She sought out each individual working, introducing herself with a smile, seeking to understand the role each individual working served in the care of her clients. Mary Parker was a team player the entire day. She asked questions when she needed direction, answered questions appropriately when asked (from faculty and staff), and was present, ready, and willing to learn from any and every opportunity available. But most importantly, on a day that was completely chaotic, Mary Parker Plunkett left the staff with a renewed sense of why they became labor and delivery nurses. The staff called and texted me, saying, "There's something special about that young lady. I can't put my finger on it but today just felt different." If you are not aware of this, labor and delivery nurses are a unique group of nurses. (I was one for years, so I'm just speaking the truth). We are territorial and very protective of those entering our domain. So, for nurses to comment, praise, and request a student to return to their floor is a very rare occurrence. The nurses say they are "COVID-tired" and experiencing a different practice environment, but they felt like Mary Parker was sent on that day to remind them of their "why."
