Mary Pennington 2023, RN

I was on vacation that day, and Mary filled in for me as charge nurse of the orthopedic cluster. We had a difficult case that unfortunately ended in a patient death, which is always tragic in the OR as it doesn’t happen often. Although Mary’s shift ended at 5 p.m., she stayed until 8 p.m. in the waiting room with the wife of the deceased patient, comforting her, holding her hand, and assisting her with making phone calls to family members telling them the news. Mary is an exemplary nurse, and I am honored to work alongside her. Her compassion, especially in this instance, should not go unnoticed. Thank you, Mary, for all you do for our department and the organization.
