On this particular day, Mary was assigned to a specific room. Her patient had just had a miscarriage. All morning, I witnessed Mary caring for this patient and her family. Unfortunately, in today’s world, miscarriage is not talked about enough; even in healthcare, it can be easily brushed off. Mary changed the narrative on this day. She took time to use all the bereavement resources we have and made that patient feel like her loss was real and her baby mattered, no matter how small her baby was. Mary made sure to use the baby’s name that the mother picked out, and she spoke kindly to the patient and offered her compassionate care. I have worked alongside Mary for over 2 years. This kind of care and compassion is a regular occurrence with Mary.

Over the last two years I have witnessed many scenarios where Mary went above and beyond just like this day I have spoken about. Mary truly cares about her patients, even the patients who are hard to handle. Mary gives exceptional care to patients day in and day out.
