Mary's voice was comforting and I could hear the compassion and nurturing nature of hers bleeding through the phone.
The first time I met Mary was over the phone when she called me to update me on my few day old son who was a patient in the NICU. Her voice was comforting and I could hear the compassion and nurturing nature of hers bleeding through the phone. She was so patient and kind with me and my over-emotional state. She answered all my questions and made it a point to ask if there was anything else I needed! I felt at ease and confident my son was in good hands.

Mary’s bedside manner is exceptional. Her communication is superb. As a mom of a preemie and living about an hour away in NH, Mary always makes a point to contact me over the phone for updates. As my son’s primary nurse in the NICU, Mary is always advocating for what she feels is best for my son. He had some struggles with feedings and Mary always made it very clear to providers what was needed or wanted. She always kept us updated as well.

We were waiting for cardiology one day and had been at the hospital for HOURS. Mary took it upon herself and went above and beyond to contact cardiology at Children’s several times to inform them dad and I were still waiting. We completely appreciated her diligence.

Mary is always so pleasant and since we spend a lot of time in the NICU visiting our son, we see the interactions between staff at times. Mary is always willing to help others and willing to explain or teach something if needed. She is so patient. She works as a team player and her colleagues appear very thankful!

While caring for our newborn son in the NICU, Mary always checks in with dad and I to see how we are and if there is anything we may need while visiting. Her support is phenomenal and we appreciate her more than ever.

Nurses like Mary are the face of the NICU at BWH. Her compassion, diligence, brilliance, calming demeanor, and nurturing nature makes every day easier knowing your son is being genuinely cared for by a nurse who loves her job and it shows! We will be forever grateful for the care she provided and she will always hold a special place in our hearts! We will remember Mary for a lifetime!
