Mary was off on this particular night. I was assigned 6 patients and another RN on their first night with 5 patients. Another experienced RN was with us. We had a rapid response on our floor. There was no CN throughout the hospital, our CNA was pulled to be 1:1 on the rapid response, and the patient was now on bipap so she is airborne precaution. I sent a text to Mary at home at 1 am seeking help. She responded and came in. She managed the patient in our unit safely and was able to take the load off of our RNs. Mary has been committed to our unit and our work throughout this pandemic. She has put in many hours to help us survive our nights. For being flexible and available, I appreciate her.
