I had outpatient surgery for breast cancer. When I got into my room to begin getting ready for surgery at 9:30 am, with surgery scheduled at 3:00, we (my husband and I) knew it was going to a long day.
My first nurse was Mary. She was such a wonderful nurse. She was sensitive, lighthearted, professional, and made this scary time not so scary. I told her I was leaving my cancer at the hospital, and we joked a bit. I just met her, but I felt she was a friend. She was such a caring lady.
This was my 13th surgery and she was the best nurse I have ever had. I have met a lot of good nurses, but not at her caliber. You could tell she loved what she was doing. It is hard to put into words what she did, as she made everything look so easy. She made my long day seem shorter and more bearable.
I received a "thank you" from Sanford and Mary was one of the nurses who signed it. She referenced our conversation - she remembered me as a patient, I was not just one of the many. I do know I have lots of good stuff to say about Sanford and my surgery, and it begins with Mary.
