As is true of many nurses, faith is central to Mary Wallace's passion for her profession. Her compassionate care for the oncology patients she serves as a care coordinator on the fifth floor is interwoven with her commitment to live out her faith at work. In an effort to blend her nursing experience with her community life, Mary became involved as a parish nurse. In this role, Mary has promoted health and wellness, organized blood drives and healthcare screeings, facilitated the training of all Sunday School teachers in CPR and recently pursuaded the congregation to invest in a portable defibrillator. During a worship service, the young wife of the youth pastor collapsed. Mary quickly responded and finding no vital signs began administering CPR. With the aid of the nearby defibrillator and the fervent prayers of those surronding, this initial response was instrumental in saving the life of this young woman who may have had a previously unknown congenital heart condition. The woman was transported to the hospital where in the critical care unit, days later, she would awaken. It was Mary's vision and professional leadership that prepared for this crisis long before it occurred. Mary is an inspiration - in her faith and in her passionate devotion to the profession of nursing.
