Maryah left a lifelong impression on me by being not just a nurse but an advocate who committed herself to my success in a full recovery.
Maryah was my day Nurse of difference. She had witnessed me at my worst and took the time to listen to my home situation. When Doctors were considering releasing me, I expressed to Maryah my concerns about being released. She was very neutral and professional as she reminded me of my rights to care as a patient. With 2 small children at home and their father deployed, I had to call 911 on myself and rely on coworkers to help with my children.

As I weighed the fear of this repeating, I expressed wanting to know that I could be successful with my [discharge] plan here in the hospital first. She continued to highlight my rights and support me on making the right decision for myself. I was never made to feel that any of my needs were brushed off or unimportant. I could tell my success in leaving was just as important to her as it was to me, no matter if that meant discharge today or tomorrow; her goal for me was a successful recovery. Maryah is a model nominee for The DAISY Award. She left a lifelong impression on me by being not just a nurse but an advocate who committed herself to my success in a full recovery.
