August 2026 Honoree
Maryam Khalaf, BSN, RN
During patient rounds on the 6th floor, I met a patient who described Maryam as the “angel she prayed for.” While experiencing significant neck pain, the patient shared that when Maryam came in to relieve the previous nurse, she felt as though “the lights were shining down,” like her angel had arrived to help her. Maryam exemplified extraordinary compassion and presence. She took the time to thoroughly address the patient’s pain and provided immediate relief. Beyond clinical care, she went above and beyond—sitting with the patient between rounds, allowing her the space to express her emotions, and offering comfort through attentive listening. She even held the patient’s hand and gently wiped her tears, creating a moment of genuine human connection. Maryam consistently makes a meaningful impact not only on her patients but also on her team on the 6th floor. As an indirect leader, it is incredibly powerful to hear stories like this that highlight the profound difference she makes in others' lives. This experience truly reflects the magnitude of her compassion, professionalism, and dedication to patient-centered care.
Thank you, Maryam, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
