Maryam Mahdi, BSc

Ms. Maryam join us in 2018. She is truly one of our extraordinary nurses. She creates a welcome and special environment for patients in DSU. She always interacts with patients and their families as they are her own family. Ms. Maryam is using empathy and caring practices to help all the patients feel like they are her top priority.

An example of her extraordinary dedication is her care and empathy to the young mother, who was crying because she was scared from the surgery of her little girl. Ms. Maryam found this mother quietly crying in her room. She approaches her and comforts her. Even more, she offers her to pray together. With all these simple things mother became calm and very grateful for Maryam's presence. Ms. Maryam has passion and a great sense of empathy which makes her a nurse with a big heart.

During the last year of Covid Maryam was upskilled to work in the respiratory zone as part of our pandemic arrangements. It was during this time she used her empathy and communication skills in Arabic in allaying the fears of the patients. It was these vital communication skills that made such a difference to the patients as they were able to fluently understand their treatment and communicate their needs to their nurse, during this frightening time.
