Maryann has been a leader on our unit since long before I first started nursing 12 years ago. She is the nurse many of us have aimed to be. She is extremely capable of any nursing skills and has no difficulty learning new skills. She goes out of her way to educate staff each and every day she is present. I know that on any day I can ask her for help and she will provide it, even if her time is limited. She is particularly gifted at seeing the bigger picture. Where many staff may groan with new changes, Maryann asks why we are doing these things. If it benefits the patient, Maryann becomes a loud voice of support. Maryann always puts herself after the patient. She is often seen putting off her breaks or staying late to take optimum care of her patients. When I first met Maryann, she had a nickname, "Doctor Yarrington". She is a wealth of knowledge, and I would feel comfortable asking her for advice on literally everything. I guarantee she will give you an answer that is creative and concise. Did I mention she practically defines the word advocate? She is an inspiration in never backing down when she knows she is doing the right thing. She will advocate for patients, family and staff alike. Thank you, Maryann, for being such a great role model.
