MaryAnne is an incredible asset to our patients and families at NM LFH in the newly developed role of Procedural Nurse Liaison. MaryAnne goes above and beyond her role each day to make connections with patients, families, and physicians and ensure the very best communication and care.
MaryAnne is a problem solver for patients and families. She listens with great empathy and always closes the loop between patient/family concerns and solutions. Our procedural families have developed trust and confidence in MaryAnne and often seek her out days after their procedure is complete.
MaryAnne continually bridges the care and communication within procedural areas and the inpatient team and she NEVER turns a patient or family in need away or directs them to another person to solve their issue. Her compassion and empathy for others knows no bounds and was evident to many recently.
MaryAnne was with a patient and heard a woman's piercing scream. She responded and found a woman in a deep state of despair after a traumatic experience who had fled the emergency department and made her way to the E Pavilion front desk. The LFH security team was attempting to help the patient back to the ED, however, due to the nature of the patient's extreme distress, this caused her to escalate. MaryAnne stepped in and calmly began to speak to the patient. She told the patient her name and asked security staff to step back. MaryAnne was able to walk the patient to the Chapel area where the patient said she would like to pray. MaryAnne was observed speaking and caring for the patient in a calm deescalating manner showing true compassion and care. She was able to safely place the patient in a wheelchair and with the assistance of a caseworker wheel the patient to a secure area in the Emergency Room. The security team recognized MaryAnne for the "fantastic way she was able to convince the patient to return to the ED" and for the fact that she showed such "compassion" and took action when she saw the situation.
Many individuals who saw MaryAnne intervene without hesitation when she saw a need, emailed, or came to speak to me in order to recognize how truly amazing it was to see such compassion. I am proud to say this is how MaryAnne treats ALL those she encounters.
