Upon waking up in the PACU my amazing nurse Marykate was so attentive. She was right there for me when I woke up.
I was diagnosed with a pituitary macroadenoma that had to be surgically removed. The next month was a whirlwind of appointments and preparation for surgery. A lot of my fear was coming from the unknown. I had no idea what to anticipate postoperatively. Not only fear of what the pain would be like but also future hormone imbalances and recovery time. Thankfully the surgery went well. Upon waking up in the PACU my amazing nurse Marykate was so attentive. She was right there for me when I woke up.
It can be quite scary when you first wake up from surgery and she was so supportive and encouraging. I was pretty out of it for most of the day in the recovery room but she was always there with whatever I needed before I even knew I needed it. She kept me comfortable with every extra measure possible (humidified air for my dry nose and ice chips at my fingertips). She made sure that my family was able to come back and see me even through the covid restrictions. What helped me through that period the most was her kind uplifting spirit. That did more for my recovery than she could ever know!
