Every action she took illustrated her technical and medical skills but the warmth gave a patina to her care for me that was off the charts and unexpected.
Marylou took "care" of me post-op after an ablation procedure. She was wonderful at anticipating my needs as I came around (which all the other PACU nurses also seemed adept at.)Yet her comfort and care were especially remarkable and noteworthy as I retained my consciousness. Her tone of voice and attention to my every need struck me deeply for her soothing tone and actions lined up with one another. She walked the talk and cast a spell on me. It's hard to convey how comfortable I felt in her able hands. She constantly checked with and on me in a way that I felt like I was the most important person in her life. What an incredible sense of well-being and peace this gave me.

Every action she took illustrated her technical and medical skills but the warmth gave a patina to her care for me that was off the charts and unexpected. Such a safe landing was provided by Marylou. Furthermore, as time passed and my placement in an inpatient room was delayed several times she stepped up as my relentless advocate with the staff on the potential surgery care floors. Phone call after phone call I could see Marylou in action. She remained diligent and very respectful yet persuasive with her peers. By the time I finally had a room, I was so convinced and comforted that this randomly assigned nurse had my back and was my aide-de-camp that I could not have imagined any better outcome. What an amazing nurse and fabulous human being!

In summary, despite a relatively short time interacting and responding to my post-op and rooming needs, Marylou proved herself to be an exceptional nurse and caregiver (healer really). I am so fortunate to have had her at my side in which she emanated confidence care and warmth in every little thing she did and said. VHC should be very proud of a nurse like Marylou. I am!
