Mason has gone above and beyond in the provision of care and compassion. He consistently demonstrates a positive attitude while focusing on serving others. He inspires optimism in others.
Mason has all the qualities of not only a great nurse but also a great person. He demonstrates all of the Lakeview College of Nursing's core values of adaptability, caring, excellence, integrity, and service. He has offered to trade his favorite clinical assignment to another student so they can receive their choice. He truly wants to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Students often say, "Let's ask Mason to help" or "Let's see what Mason thinks."

When peers have been challenging in class, he is able to manage responses to difficult situations and concentrate on learning. He does not appear visibly angry or upset and remains focused. Mason is willing to put in the hard work it takes to meet his goals.

He values the care he provides and demonstrates an unsparing effort to complete his work well. He takes pride in the quality of his work and the care he provides. He develops Quizlets for exams and shares them with his peers. Mason is a lifelong learner, and I have no doubt this will not be the last degree he will pursue.

Mason has gone above and beyond in the provision of care and compassion. He consistently demonstrates a positive attitude while focusing on serving others. He inspires optimism in others. While traveling areas of OSF for clinical, I have had nurses stop me and comment on Mason's attention to detail and thoroughness in work completion. I witnessed him providing care and comfort to a visitor who needed assistance. I have seen him get up to assist and follow peers without asking why he is needed. He has neglected to take a break if a patient requests he talk with them. He takes the time to educate clinical students when he is working.

I have interviewed some of his patients. They all had only positive comments and stated, "I know it will be a good day if Mason is caring for me." An emergency department nurse sought me out to comment on how Mason assisted him with a patient without being asked. He was impressed how "he just jumped right in and was there for me. The patient could have been harmed without his help." Mason demonstrates confidence in his ability to perform in the capacity of a nurse and to provide effective, compassionate, high-quality care. I feel he is deserving of the DAISY Award.
