Matt has a wonderfully calming, but also funny and witty way of making patients feel comfortable even in the most stressful and frightening situations.
I have had the privilege to work with Matt, LPN, for the past 9 months and hopefully for a long time to come. From the very beginning, it was hard to miss how compassionate and kind Matt is toward all our patients. He doesn’t miss a moment to share his broad knowledge, he explains test results and helps patients understand how they can improve their health by making little but important changes in their lives. But what makes Matt so special is that he has a wonderfully calming, but also funny and witty way of making patients feel comfortable even in the most stressful and frightening situations.
One time, for example, one of our dear, elderly patients was unable to hold his urine in the examining room. Matt acted like this was the most normal thing in the world. He made P feel more comfortable and much less embarrassed; “Don’t worry about it, P. This happens all the time.” Not only did Matt clean up the room in no time, but he also arranged for new clothes for the patient.
Just recently E came to the office a few days before she was scheduled to have a heart valve replaced. She was extremely frightened, worried about the procedure, the pain she would have to endure, but also about the scar that she would have for the rest of her life. It so happens that Matt went through a similar procedure in the past. He was so kind to share his experience with E, he told her about his recovery and even shared his scar with her. When I came into the room shortly thereafter, E told me how much better she felt, how much less afraid she was, and what a wonderful nurse Matt was, telling her about his personal experience.
There are too many moments like this in our clinic day to mention and no day passes without patients’ comments on Matt’s competence, kindness, and compassion.
It is very apparent that Matt went into his profession to help others and he does a wonderful job doing so.
