Mathieu Wanamaker, BSN, RN
Mathieu has gone above and beyond to help a patient and his mother understand how to take care of his new diagnosis. The mother only speaks Portuguese and does not know basic math as she has never gone to school. This nurse has taken extra time to help the mom with her math skills. He has also made up specialized worksheets to help her with basic math.
Mathieu also made arrangements for mom to get to and from an outside pharmacy, while the patient is still in the hospital, so she can pick up her much-needed prescriptions. All of this while using the interpreter's phone as well as a live interpreter. Without Mathieu's efforts, this patient would not have been able to go home safely with his mother.
