Matt was caring for a patient in ICU E7 whose family was struggling with her decision to be comfort care. After a long bedside discussion with the care team, the family and the physicians stepped out of the room to further discuss care. I overheard Matt say to the patient to "stay strong in your decisions. This is your choice. You are doing so well to tell your family your wishes."

He stayed with the patient while her family spoke to the other care team members. He reassured the patient and comforted her through a very difficult time. Ultimately the family went along with the patient's wishes and allowed her to pass peacefully. Matt is such an asset to our team because of his compassion and dedication to his patients.
