Matt and I were taking care of a young homeless man who presented to the Emergency Department by police after bystanders found him out in bad weather. He was intoxicated, his glasses were snapped, and he was in bad shape, due to exposure and chemical dependency. Matt was patient with him, helped him get dry clothes, fixed his glasses and listened to the young man's predicament. Matt's attention to detail in caring for this patient was awesome! It was as if he was caring for his own family member.
One of the biggest challenges of working in a busy ED is balancing the attention and time given to patients in distress, while still managing all the other tasks set before you in an efficient manner. Matt is a master at this and can make his patients feel like they are the only one he is taking care of. It is that personal touch and authenticity that makes him a leader in the Emergency Department and I am proud to have him on our team!
