Matt took some extra time to fill out a bracket for the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament with the patient.
We have had a patient in the MICU for almost 90 days who we are helping to "pre-hab" with the goal of getting him to Duke got a lung transplant post-COVID. Recently, this patient has improved and we have seen him come back to life! We have seen his personality shine through and have learned so much more about what he likes and dislikes and are actively working to bring some normalcy to his life, trying to include some of his normal hobbies and interests into his day-to-day here in the hospital. Whatever we can do to motivate and get him to NC!

Matt was the resource nurse today and helped me, the bedside nurse, with a lot of different tasks for this patient but Matt took some extra time to fill out a bracket for the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament with the patient. He was so excited to talk and share his thoughts with us even though he is more of an NBA fan. Matt went above and beyond to make this patient feel special and normal in what has been a grueling recovery. The smile across this patient's face went from ear to ear. In the ICU we don't often get the chance to spend this long amount of time with patients and Matt really stepped up to make this patient's day, and it is something that will continue to engage him in the weeks to come as we get to watch the tournament with our patient! Kudos Matt, you are an incredible nurse and human and I am so lucky to work with you, friend!
