My son was admitted to the hospital due to severe pain and the next day we discovered he had been misdiagnosed. When we got Matt as a nurse, my son's care became more compassionate. Matt clustered the care with the intention of allowing him to sleep. He did his night cares usually without waking him. Matt was amazing at explaining what was going on and why something was being done. We could tell Matt had a passion for caring for his patients and treated us like friends.
Having had a serious illness that caused him to be hospitalized and have some of the same procedures helped because Matt could make suggestions. We feel that he advocated for us and the care we got. Matt was always upbeat and encouraging, wanting to know how we had been since he was last our nurse.
What we expected to be a day or two, ended up being 17 days in the hospital. Matt treated us with respect and my son with dignity, encouraging each small milestone. He helped when my son was discouraged and in pain. He encouraged us to ask questions of him and the doctors and found us answers. He was such a blessing to our family and even asked about our family who was not there, how they were doing with us at the hospital. Matt is a nurse you want to keep and have more like him.
