On two separate occasions, patients needed medical transport to other facilities due to changes in condition that do not fall within our specialty. Two transport companies were contacted but no nurses were available due to high transport volume at the time. Matt, who also works as a medical transport nurse, volunteered his time to transport our patients. Matt stayed past the end of his shift to accommodate the needs of the patients and to assure that they received continued critical care.

This is one of many examples where Matt has gone above and beyond the call of duty. He is very caring and maintains a positive attitude during stressful times. Matt is also very knowledgeable and is not only an asset to the CVICU nurses but to other departments as well. He is a role model for student nurses and for new employees learning critical care.
