This nurse made the worst day ever so much more bearable for my family and me. My dad was transferred to Toledo Hospital on a ventilator with multiple organs failing. We had this person as my dad's nurse two nights in a row. They took the time to understand the personalities of my sister, mother, and myself along with what each of us needed to feel more comfortable during this experience. They showed my sister and me each machine, explained how they worked, and what the different settings were, and kept us fully informed in a way that we could understand without a medical background. They also made sure we fully understood anything the doctors were telling us. They quickly picked up on the fact that my mom didn't want the super detailed information and made sure she had my sister and me with her when anything needed to be explained. They cared for my dad in a way that was so professional and compassionate. I don't think I saw them sit down the last night my dad was in the hospital. They were up checking various things, adjusting medicines and machines, and checking on our family all night. That was the last night of my dad's life, and this nurse being there, explained everything, taking care of the family on top of the patient, and visibly doing everything they could to try to save my dad made that night so much more manageable than it could have been. My whole family left the hospital the next morning heartbroken at the loss of my dad, but grateful and fully confident that my dad was given the best possible care.
