Upon my departure from your hospital, I shook Matthew's hand, and my first instinct was to give Matthew a hug because, at the moment to me, he was part of my family.
The son of a patient submitted Matthew Engle’s DAISY Award nomination. He included the following details from their experience with Mr. Engle:
Matthew was on shift overnight and assisted the patient and the patient’s family during a very difficult time in their lives. “We are blessed and very fortunate to have had Matthew in our lives. It was a very brief moment, but he made a huge impact in the way he cared for our family member, my family, and myself.
From the moment Matthew walked in to introduce himself, I noticed that my family member was in good hands. Some examples of his kindness include organizing an overnight stay with my family member and communicating so kindly and respectfully with our family in Spanish. The way Matthew carried himself, to his noble and compassionate actions and choice of words, shows his true love for the medical field and helping others.
Matthew is a very respectful, dedicated, and compassionate person who truly cares for his patients and their families; he chose the correct career path as this is where he belongs, in a field where compassion, respect, and understanding are a priority. Matthew is a true example of what a medical professional should be.
