Matthew was nominated for honoring the wishes of a patient who wanted to get married before his open-heart surgery. Matthew was caring for a patient who had come through the Cath Lab and needed open-heart surgery. The patient expressed fear for the upcoming surgery and wanted to get married before the procedure. With only a day’s notice, Matthew jumped into action to make it happen. He quickly contacted the chaplain, prepared the patient for the occasion, and obtained permission from the patient’s doctor to go to the chapel. “Matthew and the chaplain made such an impression on the patient and his wife that they were invited to an official “Happily Ever After Celebration” a few weeks later.
