My elderly 85-year-old father was ill, and I took him to the ED at Baywood. He is a typical stubborn hard-of-hearing, impatient elderly man. Our visit to the ED was about five hours. Matthew was his nurse and he was incredible! Matthew not only has excellent clinical skills but more importantly, the way he connected with my father was amazing to watch.
Matthew was kind, patient, compassionate, and a great listener. Most importantly, he talked loudly and slowly so that my father could understand everything that was happening. Matthew also always checked with my dad to make sure he agreed with the plan of care and included him in all of the conversations. Matthew and my dad are both veterans, so they shared some stories, which my dad loved!
Matthew was efficient and always made sure that my dad was comfortable. He even told my dad that it was okay to turn up Fox News as loud as he wanted since he was hard-of-hearing, and I have to say that the TV was quite loud!
