His compassion, communication, and humanity made a lasting impression on our entire family.
I am honored to recognize Matt Holzinger, RN—affectionately known as “Zinger”—for the extraordinary compassion, professionalism, and reassurance he provided during a frightening and unfamiliar medical emergency involving my nephew.
He was attending a school dance in the gym when he suddenly began to feel very hot and collapsed while standing against the wall. Witnesses reported that he appeared to be having an active seizure. Emergency services were immediately contacted, and he was transported by ambulance to the Bridgton Hospital Emergency Department.
Upon arrival, the ambulance was met by the ER staff, including Zinger, whose quick response and calm confidence were evident from the very start. He played a key role in ensuring he received prompt and attentive care during what was an incredibly scary situation.
When my sister and his father arrived at the Emergency Department, they were understandably anxious. The ER staff informed them that once he was settled, they would be able to see him. When they did enter the room, he greeted them with genuine compassion, patience, and kindness.
He took the time to answer their questions thoroughly and thoughtfully, helping to ease their fear during a moment they had never experienced before.
Zinger had an amazing personality and a warm sense of humor, which truly helped lighten the mood in an otherwise intense and emotional situation. He struck the perfect balance between being highly professional and personally reassuring.
He was extremely detailed and informative when explaining his care, and when there was a question he didn’t immediately have an answer to, he made sure to find one—never leaving us feeling uncertain or ignored.
Thanks to Zinger, my sister and her ex-husband felt confident that he was in excellent, capable hands. His compassion, communication, and humanity made a lasting impression on our entire family.
In a moment filled with fear and uncertainty, he provided not only exceptional nursing care but also comfort, reassurance, and hope.
For all of these reasons, I believe Matt Holzinger, RN, truly exemplifies the values of the DAISY Award, and I am deeply grateful for the care he provided to my nephew and our family.
