Upon my release, he was getting off of shift, but Matt still made the time to come speak to me about my healthcare and answer any questions that I may have before he left.
While in the emergency department, having chest pains, I was scared and alone. The nurse came to get me, a bigger man with tattoos and a deep voice. I thought to myself, “Oh no, he’s not going to care at all; the men never do.” We got to my room, and he calmly began getting me hooked up to the cardiac monitors. He was discussing the best way to get my blood with the other nurse and decided on putting in an IV instead. He was so gentle and patient with me. I sat for hours and needed to use the restroom. I used the nurse light, an answer, but no one came so, I pressed it again, and here comes that man again. Being so polite, patient, and caring. I used the restroom, and about 20 minutes later, he came back in to hook me up to everything. It was then that I explained to him how scared I was and the sense of urgency had left, I wanted to know what was going on.

Then Matt sat down at the computer and began looking over everything and started discussing with me what was going on and why they were doing everything. He even suggested another test to be performed and advocated for me to the PA on duty! He was so calm; he took fear and anxiety out the window. He understood the need for me to get this done as I was tired after just working 12 hours and being up since 2 AM. He got me some food and made sure to warm it up, and he even let me pick what I wanted with a snack and a place to just heal.

Upon my release, he was getting off of shift, but Matt still made the time to come speak to me about my healthcare and answer any questions that I may have before he left. This big scary man, or so I thought, was beyond amazing, and I am so thankful for him on that day because when I was scared and alone, he helped me feel at peace, heard, and comfortable!

Matt, you were a saint to me that day! I even learned that he was like his hero Rambo, with a green beret, and that his daughter was graduating the next week. Congrats on your daughter’s graduation, and keep up all the hard work you do, Rambo! You’re what this world needs, and I appreciate you so much!

Matt was personable, caring, reassuring, and such a great face for the ED. He took time to explain things for my mother’s injury and needed treatment and aftercare.
