Matt was there to offer reassurance and comfort. Our dad referred to Matt as “his best pal” and said Matt was “how all nurses should be—great!”
Our dad spent the last five months of his life fighting an infection in the hospital. During his final month, he was transferred to Jersey Shore, where he received outstanding care from every unit he was a patient on. When the decision was made to transition him to hospice, our dad was fortunate to have Matt assigned as his nurse.
Matt cared for our dad during the last four days of his life, providing compassionate and attentive care during an incredibly difficult time. He took the time to talk with our dad about his life, his thoughts, and his family. He ensured that our dad’s pain was well-controlled and that he had everything he needed. When our dad felt scared or confused, Matt was there to offer reassurance and comfort. Our dad referred to Matt as “his best pal” and said Matt was “how all nurses should be—great!”
Matt not only provided exceptional care to our dad, but he also supported our entire family. He made sure our mother, who was losing her husband of 53 years never felt alone. He answered her questions with patience and provided unwavering support.
Matt shines in the darkness that is losing a loved one. Because of his kindness, compassion, and dedication, he will always be remembered for bringing comfort and peace to our family.
