Matthew is one of the most selfless and caring nurses and individuals I have ever met. He is always willing to go above and beyond for our patients. In one instance, Matthew took the time to make a patient feel acknowledged and heard. Matthew took the time to try and talk to a patient under my care who had a history of a Traumatic Brain Injury. Due to this history, his affected speech made it difficult to understand what he was saying.

Because Matthew took the time to understand the patient, we found out the patient was hungry. Matthew decided to spend his own money to buy the patient food from the cafeteria. Matthew bought him some soup, yogurt, and a soft fruit cup from the cafeteria. Not only did Matthew buy him food, but he also took the time to help feed the patient. This is just one of the thousands of selfless acts I have witnessed of Matthew. He never does it to receive recognition, rather just solely out of the kindness of his heart. All nurses should strive to have Matthew's level of compassion.
