This act was an outstanding example of a great catch under the “Stop the Line” compliance for patient safety. His quick action ensured our ability to continue to perform safe, reliable procedures for our patients.
Matt has been with DHM since 2021. He began his career as a new nurse in the operating room but his passion for “awake” patients quickly motivated him to make a change into pre-op. It is truly an honor to watch him grow as a nurse. His passion and cheerful spirit shines when he is caring for his patients. We regularly receive compliments from patients on Matt’s cheerful disposition and positive attitude.

Matt is also very diligent in his work and always tries to go above and beyond. He is always looking for ways to improve not only himself but also our processes. He went back to school and received his BSN in September 2022 and is dedicated to ensuring the safest care possible for our patients.

In late 2023, Matt’s quick action and bravery in calling out a patient safety issue rippled across facilities nationwide.  He exemplifies our culture of safety at DHM.  Matt felt empowered to “Stop the Line” after noticing a flaw in an IV Catheter. The flaw ended up being a potential patient safety issue, and our Compliance Team quickly engaged. An investigation concluded that there were many IV catheters with the same flaw, leading the manufacturer to institute an immediate nationwide recall of the IV catheter product. This act was an outstanding example of a great catch under the “Stop the Line” compliance for patient safety. His quick action ensured our ability to continue to perform safe, reliable procedures for our patients.

We are very lucky to have such an optimistic, caring, and attentive nurse in our surgical department and as part of the DHM Tenet team.
