October 2022 Honoree
Matthew Tosto, RN
The patient presented with a sarcoma that eroded into the femoral artery. There was significant blood loss. The ER nurse, Matthew, entered the room with a calm and professional demeanor and began to take control of the situation, gaining IV access to administer blood products while at the same time keeping the patient calm. Matthew was not assigned to this patient, but without his intervention, the patient would have likely not survived long enough to make it to the OR. The surgery team that was consulted was impressed by Matthew and grateful that he was there to intervene.
Thank you, Matthew, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
