Mattie Cappadonna, BSN,RN,
I have had the privilege of being cared for by Mattie twice in the Baylor St. Luke’s Emergency Department, and both experiences left a lasting impression on me.
During my first visit, Mattie was not only attentive to my medical needs, but also to my emotional wellbeing. She took the time to sit with me, listen, and talk with me about my daughter, who serves in the Navy and is stationed in Japan. Her genuine interest and compassion helped me feel seen, comforted, and cared for during a stressful time.
When I returned to the Emergency Department yesterday, I was greeted by Mattie once again. To my surprise and delight, she immediately recognized me and remembered details from our previous conversation. She asked about my daughter and how she was doing, showing a level of personal connection that I never expected in such a busy environment. It truly touched me that Mattie remembered me and took the time to ask about my family.
Her kindness, compassion, and genuine concern for her patients go far beyond providing excellent clinical care. She makes people feel valued as individuals, not just patients, and that is a gift. Mattie exemplifies the spirit of the DAISY Award through her extraordinary nursing care and heartfelt compassion. She made a difficult experience much easier, and I am deeply grateful for the care she provided.
