Maura really listened to me when I was frustrated with my diabetes care. At home I give myself long-term and short-term insulin. The short-term insulin I administer before I eat and to recover if my blood sugar ever goes high. Here, I was not given short-term insulin before eating because the policy does not allow it. My blood sugar kept soaring after meals and we would have to recover with a big shot afterwards. Maura really listened to me as I explained how I manage my blood sugar at home. She took action and discussed with the doctor the strategy of allowing me to have meal-time insulin. This resulted in a change for me which makes sense. I was also impressed that Maura involved me with the decision making, she would ask "Are you comfortable with that". She is a stellar nurse and I am grateful for her attentiveness and responsiveness.
