She not only took care of my mother physically but also mentally. My mom was not coherent a lot of the time, but Maura would always be there rubbing her face and hair and telling her about "her wonderful family".
My story takes place almost 5 years ago. This is how much of an impact that Maura had on me. I think of her a lot. She helped me through the hardest time in my life. My mother was admitted to the hospital with a failing heart. She wanted no extreme measures to be kept alive. Something she had told me for years, should it ever come to that. The definition of a nurse in Webster's dictionary is "a person who cares for the sick or infirm". They need to add a second definition, which would read Maura McIntyre. She not only took care of my mother physically but also mentally. My mom was not coherent a lot of the time, but Maura would always be there rubbing her face and hair and telling her about "her wonderful family". But really what stands out about Maura is the care she gave to the rest of us. She explained exactly what would happen to Mom. She was dying but Mom wanted to see GOD. A fact Maura mentioned frequently to her. There are not enough adjectives to describe her caring, compassionate, kind, warmhearted, etc. At one point she explained that Mom would not make it through the night and she apologized for not being in the next day for personal reasons. So much kindness! Yesterday I saw her and told her the impact she had on our family. She said, "it had made her day" to hear this. That is so like her to say that. She had an impact on our family.
