We recently had a patient with a difficult diagnosis and a poor prognosis. Maura exemplified kindness, compassion, dignity, and unconditional support. She walked alongside the patient's mom and supported her with understanding even though it was an ethically and emotionally difficult journey. She made the patient and her mom feel loved, seen, and cherished.
Maura showed compassion by never judging or questioning the mother's desire to spend as much time as possible with her daughter and supported her through many ups and downs throughout the admission. She showed excellence in care by never faltering in the superior care she provided to the patient. Maura showed integrity by upholding the mother's wishes above her own feelings and beliefs and she showed dedication by sticking by the patient and her mother's side over the last 4 months, never complaining or requesting a break from the assignment.
I feel like Maura has gone above and beyond as a nurse in caring for this family and has done an excellent job of exemplifying Seattle Children's core values.
