Maureen went outside and ensured the patient she believed him. I saw the relief in his eyes when I went to speak to him.
A patient wanted to leave AMA. This patient had been suffering for months with no help. The patient felt as if he was falling apart and no one believed him. Maureen went outside and ensured the patient she believed him. I saw the relief in his eyes when I went to speak to him. He cried to me that someone actually cared about him now. This is one of the many times I have seen this type of compassion and care from Maureen. She is a nurse who never fails to remember why she is here. No matter the situation she supports and advocates for the patient.

Maureen volunteered to work on the med surg unit. Our census was high and our staffing was minimal. Maureen assisted us to ensure that our patients received excellent care. She bathed every one of our patients and answered their call bells quickly. She passed meal trays, obtained vital signs and blood sugars, and assisted with hygiene as needed, and she performed those tasks willingly and with efficiency. Her interaction with each patient was compassionate and sincere. She did whatever she could to ensure their comfort and safety. Many times “float” nurses wait for instructions in terms of what to do. Maureen needed no instruction. She jumped right in and she was a tremendous help! I feel Maureen went above and beyond in her role that day. She truly demonstrated what nursing is all about.
