I wanted to take this time to commend and show my appreciation to Maureen. First impressions are lasting impressions and that saying especially holds true in this case. During my first encounter, Maureen greeted me with a smile and a personality that provided a comforting feeling which immediately calmed my fears associated with having major surgery. While under her care, Maureen made certain to provide frequent updates as she noticed my anxiety growing as the surgery became further delayed. She kept both me and my family engaged in conversation, allowing our minds to be distracted from the surgery. Maureen was very present, checking in on me often, never having to see the call light to locate her or ask her for anything. As I was wheeled out of the OR to recovery, I distinctly remember her rushing to my bedside to on me even in all the mayhem. To my surprise, Maureen visited me on the unit, and it was such a pleasant surprise. Maureen's approach to patient care is one to model, as she is authentically passionate about her job. She not only provided comfort to me, but my family as well. As easy as it is to neglect family members in the process, Maureen always made it a point to include my mother and sister in my plan of care. As a cancer patient, I can honestly say that we will never forget how she made us feel.
