She had no professional obligation to go so far above her job role to assist, but she did.
L had an unfortunate event which caused her to end up in the ER with a serious lung infection that resulted in her being placed on a ventilator. At the time of this happening, I was in Tucson, and not able to do anything about this. I traveled from Arizona to Issaquah not knowing what was going on, and I was very concerned L was in the hospital all by herself, most likely very scared. When I got to the hospital the first nurse I met on her team was Maureen Webb. Within minutes my fears of L being alone and scared were eliminated. I realized L had nursing care that would rival what you would expect from a dearly loved family member. She was being cared for in the most dignified way possible, with grace and care. Mo was the perfect person at the perfect moment for my family’s needs. She always took the time to explain what was happening, and in a way that was understandable for the situation. She had no professional obligation to go so far above her job role to assist, but she did. Even as L's health continued to decline, to the point we had open discussion of ending care (what ultimately happened), Mo was always there to offer clear and concise knowledge to help me make an informed rational decision. Even though L's outcome was not ideal, the fact Mo was involved in her care mattered. Mo made sure that we mattered. We were more than just a patient and family. At the end of the day people like Mo do not come around often, and when they do they are not given enough credit for the noble work they do. She is a major asset to Swedish, and people need to recognize that.
