You see, our daughter choked on her own phlegm and turned stiff and blue and because of Maureen's extra steps she took with us, I was able to successfully perform CPR without hurting her and was able to save her.
Maureen was so kind and compassionate and took extra time to spend with us making sure that we were prepared to take our daughter home. The night before we were ready to be discharged she asked if we had gone over CPR and what to do if our daughter choked. We told her that we had watched the videos and done all the training and she asked if anyone had done a walk-through with the dummies. We told her they had not. She went and got all of the equipment and sat with us and our daughter's room at the bedside and had us practice over and over and over again to ensure we knew exactly what we were doing. Through it all she was encouraging, patient, and just all-around amazing.
By the time we left with our baby, we were certain that we had it. It was amazing to have the hands-on piece as it really solidified all of it. We also wholeheartedly believe that because of Maureen and her patience with us that our daughter is alive. She had regained color before the ambulance arrived. Maureen deserves every bit of recognition for taking her job so seriously. We went to thank her in person when we were admitted again but wanted to be sure she is recognized in other ways as well.
From the time we met her on our first day in 5E and until our discharge she was task-oriented, comforting, and thoughtful and cared for our newborn the way she would her own child. We will never forget her and will be forever grateful for her as it was her that helped us save our baby’s life.
